I love oats, its one of those things that’s so easy to prepare and keeps me full the entire day and its one of the reasons my breakfast section looks so sparse. This is my all time favorite oats recipe and like all good things it happened by accident 🙂 Toasting the oats give it amazing flavor and the smell is just mind blowing.
BASIC TOASTED OATS – serves 1
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup soy milk
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 2 -3 tbsp agave nectar or maple syrup ( to taste)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp margarine
On medium-high heat, place the oats in a pan. Cook for about 5 minutes stirring frequently, make sure not to burn the oats ( its ready when it starts smelling like popcorn, it should be golden brown) . Reduce heat to low-medium, add the water. Stir until the water has boiled up. Add the milk, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, agave and margarine. Continue to stir. Cook for 5 for minutes and serve. I topped mine with chia seeds, coconut flakes and apple.
