What I wore Halloween Edition

Leaving everything till the last minute is just something that comes naturally to me so this is my last minute gypsy outfit.  When I went to visit my parents, my Mother got me a lot of hideous clothes, perfect for that old school gypsy look and for some reason I own more scarves than anyone should.

Happy Halloween to everyone, may it be filled with magic.

Carving my very first pumpkin

I decided to carve my very first pumpkin.  I love Halloween and everything that comes with so, obviously I had to carve a pumpkin.  My experience was…….OMG! It’s so disgusting, the stringy part was a horrible hand feel and it was just never ending, but I finally emptied that sucker out and started carving.  Now this was really fun, I didn’t expect it to be so easy.  I didn’t do a crazy face, I stuck with a good old classic.  Here are some photos of the whole process.

Belphie was very interested in the whole thing, but he is always interested when it comes to food and yes, I do sit like that.

The end result was this.

Tonight….We carve the face off of everyone that’s betrayed us.  Nah, just kidding.  Tonight, I carve a face into a pumpkin.  Happy little Friday!

DIY Halloween Decorations – Mini Graveyard

I know I’m posting Halloween decorations a wee bit late, but better late than never I say.  This is a cute yet creepy decoration that is easy to make and can be free if you have all the things on hand.

Things you will need

  • small piece of a cardboard box
  • string
  • markers
  • a stick from outside
  • a small pot
  • soil
  • paper
  • sticky tape, glue, whatever works for you

Draw out a simple bat shape on a piece of paper and cut out 4 or 5 bats  ( I didn’t have black paper or markers so I did it the hard way…colouring it in with a pen.) .

Take the cardboard and cut out to tombstone shapes.

Now you can start assembling.  Place the soil in the pot and stick the twig in the corner of the pot.  Stick the bats on the little branches and arrange them how ever you like.  If you want to make dangling bats, use a little bit of string.

I had this little container of a zombie hand, that I stuck into the ground if you don’t have anything that can be used as a zombie its not a big deal.  Next arrange the tombstones around the stick.

There you go a really easy Halloween decorations, that’s cute and creepy at the same time.

Have a spooky night.

Green Tea Kiwi Smoothie

Green tea is not something that is for everyone.  Some people love the taste some people hate it.  Some people just force it down like its castor oil and some people can’t wait for another cup.  Me?! I’m not sure.  Sometimes I like the taste, sometimes it feels like I need to drink it like I’m taking a shot of tequila.  This smoothie on the other hand is so amazing.  Its a lighter smoothie that’s so refreshing you will just want to make a pitcher of it.  Packed with green tea, kiwi, granny smith apple and banana, so you know you’re getting the good stuff in this smoothie.

  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and chopped before freezing.
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • 1 granny smith apple, peeled and chopped
  • 3/4 cup green tea, steeped for 10 minutes or overnight in the fridge
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 1-2 tsp agave nectar

Place everything in a blender and blend until completely smooth.  Chill or serve immediately.

What do you mean the weekend is over?!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and if you’re celebrating Halloween have an outfit ready.  Its not a big deal if you don’t, you can always go as a ghost.

This weekend was filled with fun (went on a hike that felt like I would never go down ever again), did lots of little projects around the house and had coffee at this wonderful nursery tea garden that’s got cats everywhere.  So without further ado I bring to you. PHOTOS!

DIY Halloween decorations.  This little ghost garland is extremely easy to make.  All you need to do is cut out some ghost shapes, make little eyes and stick them on a piece of string, easy as can be! You have yourself an adorable decorations.  Will be great to make with kids.

We got some indoor plants to liven the house up a little.

Look at this GIANT, yet beautiful zucchini flower.

More indoor plants.  This is a bunch of different flowers all in one big daddy of a pot.

I’m obsessed with this plant.  I love the leaves and how it makes the area under the stairs look like its got a use.

New art on the walls.

Walking in the mall.  I noticed this random set up.  Its a microscope to see the plants.

Delicious cinnamon polenta porridge.

Found this pile of rocks on our hike and you know we added some rocks to that pile.

The never ending uphill hike was worth it for such a beautiful view.

I love the pattern on this leaf.

Can you spot the chameleon?

That big pile of twigs is the black eagle nest.  False advertising, because I saw not even a baby eagle.

Mr lizard just soaking up the rays.

There was a bench here and a lot of the rocks had cell numbers and writing on it and all I kept thinking was….Who comes to a nature reserve with stationary?! Must be some sort of psycho.

Hope everyone survives Monday.

Garden Update

Happy Friday everyone!

The garden is doing better and better each day.  The butter lettuce has been used for sandwiches salads and all sorts of other treats.  The radishes has been used on our German inspired hotdogs.  The kale keeps getting bigger and bigger.  The zucchini started flowering and the runner beans are just going crazy.  I also planted some romaine lettuce, bell peppers, broccoli and cauliflower.  Other things growing in the garden are strawberries, basil, dill, thyme, flat leaf parsley, parsley sage, catnip, cherry tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, spinach and cucumber.

Who knows what else I will plant, I’ve gone mental with my vegetable garden.

Pretty flowers growing over the wall.

Strawberries getting bigger.  They’re actually turning red today. 😀

Reflector for the birds.  They’ve been doing a number on the veggie garden.

The front garden.  Its getting there, but I don’t know if the grass will ever grow.  We planted some lawn seeds and its growing in random patches.

Kale stem getting mighty strom

Beans everywhere

Flowers from the front garden

The hanging flowers

This is the new veggie patch I made.  Planted a lot of starter plants, I was growing in toilet rolls. 🙂

Flowers desperately trying to escape their flower prison.

More flowers from the front garden.  I love my floppy flowers.

Busy bee doing his daily work

Zuchinni flowers

Added some bamboo reeds to the garden for the tomatoes.  I also wrapped string around them for the birds.

Made this bread basket.

Flowers in the sun.

When the grass finally grows.  I will feel terrible for Belphie.  No more dust baths for you kitty.

Have a lovely weekend everybody.

Raw Tacos with Marinated Mushroom Meat and Guacamole

This was one of my favourite lunch or just any time recipe.  The marinated mushrooms makes a great taco meat and doesn’t cost a fortune, it also pairs amazingly with the guacamole.  Its the best explosion of flavour you can have in your mouth and refreshes you and makes your face feel all glowy the whole day.

an instant of life captured for eternity

Happy Tuesday.

Its been really hot here and really beautiful.  Everything is going well on my side especially my little vegetable garden that keeps expanding, as well as the flower garden that’s starting to bush out like crazy lately.  We’ve also added a pretty hanging garden to the wall, but let me just show you.
