What I wore Wednesday

This is the last What I wore Wednesday of the year! Lets have a cheer for that.  To celebrate its all black errything, just kidding.  What will we be doing on this fine new years eve? Well, because all the suggestions online are just terrible, like be the designated driver for your drunk friends. Just no. There will be no way I will be driving bunch of drunks around and I also think these suggestions were written by people who were not that intense about drinking, I’m not willing to go to a bar or intense new years eve party and have all my hard efforts destroyed, by one drink.  So instead…I will be having a mocktail party and binge watching roswell.

Happy new years everybody! If you’re drinking be safe! I hope this year will be a great one.

Johannesburg Art Gallery

Hello lovelies!  Today was a fun packed day.  We went to check out the Johannesburg Art Gallery and I can’t believe I haven’t moved into that place yet.  This beautiful gallery is situated in downtown Johannesburg, yes this will put a lot of people off visiting the gallery, but its worth it, this gallery needs to be in this area to show everyone/inspire that art isn’t just about money, this gallery is for the people. Poor, middle class and the rich it doesn’t matter.

There are numerous painting and sculptures on display, ranging from foreign artist to graffiti art.  They also have a multi sensory installation running by renowned artist William Kentridge.  Sitting and watching his work was truly amazing.

I was a little love struck and surprised I didn’t burst into tears when I finally saw it.

Just a few photos of this wonderful experience.  Its almost new year party time.  For all my sober friends…good luck.

Belphie got a new toy.  In this photo he might seem interested in it, but he is completely ignoring it now and just not interested.  Hopefully he likes it.

Immunity Booster Juice

This is a great juice recipe that’s so easy any juice phobic person will be able to whip it up in a juicy snap.

This juice is a great immunity booster made up of carrots, oranges, apples and ginger.  The best part  about this juice is definitely the taste, its so delicious and just looks so happy.

What makes this juice so nutritious?

  1. Improves immunity and controls heart disease: Beta-Carotene makes it rich in vitamin A, which helps immunity.
  2. Cleanses the liver: This is great for me, being sober I really wanted to get my body back on track and this juice has just made me feel so much better.
  3. Prevents acne: Its high in essential oils, which helps detoxifying the body.
  4. Hair care:  Increases hair growth.
  5. Cleanses the body: Carrot juice cleanses the body and rids it of harmful toxins.

  1. Boost Immunity: A single orange can meet more than 100% of your daily vitamin C requirement. This helps your immunity and keeps you free from disease and infections.
  2. Great for your eyes: Oranges are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium which are all great for your eyes.
  3. Prevents heart disease: Oranges have flavonoids like hesperidin which reduces cholesterol and prevents your arteries from getting blocked. This, in turn protects you from heart attack and various other cardiovascular diseases.
  4. Helps prevents ulcers: Oranges are high in fibre which helps keeps your stomach healthy.
  5. Prevents hair loss: Oranges have a high vitamin c contend which is required to make collagen. Which helps keeps the tissues in your hair together.

  1. Reduces Cholesterol: The soluble fibre found in apples binds with fat in the intestines, which lowers cholesterol.
  2. Boos Immunity: apples contain an antioxidant called quercetin. Recent studies have found that quercetin can help boost and fortify your immune system, especially when you’re stressed out.
  3. Prevents Cataracts
  4. Controls weight
  5. Detoxifies your liver.

  1. Helps with nausea
  2. Great cold and flu prevention.
  3. Reduces pain and inflammatory.
  4. Strengthens immune system.
  5. Helps combat morning sickness.

Christmas 2014

This year Santa was a bit of a douche, what I woke up to Christmas morning was a horrible case of pinkeye. Oh and its not any better today, it looks like I was punched in the face, but a swollen eye is no reason to get upset.  Christmas was to wonderful for that.

Christmas eve we ate edamame and tofu chowmein. Christmas was a wonderful time of watching a lot of Christmas movies, taking photos of Belphie with his Santa hat (he loved his hat), pretending to be reindeer and eating the most delicious sweet potato dauphinoise. This is Christmas in photos.

^^ aint no mess like a Christmas mess.

^^ First attempt at our Christmas photo. I couldn’t stop laughing.

Dirty Snowballs aka Lamingtons

While making these lovely treats I was ranting away a storm ( I over talk about nonsense) about the name of these little things.  It sounds to much like lame – ingtons and they certainly are not lame, they should be called something cool like hedgehogs, pin cushions or dirty snowballs.  So that is how the renaming of lamingtons went down.

With Christmas just around the corner this pretty and easy cake Should be made.  What are dirty snowballs? Its a dessert from Australia made of sponge cake, chocolate sauce and coconut.  So its the triple threat of the cake world.

DIRTY SNOWBALLS ( lamingtons) – 16 snowballs

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sunflower oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups coconut flakes

Chocolate sauce

  • 3 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C / 357 F

In a large bowl mix the flour, sugar, cornflour, salt, baking powder and baking soda  Pour in the vinegar, vanilla, oil and water.  Mix until well combined.  Grease a rectangular baking pan and pour the batter in.

Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.  Leave to completely cool.

In a large bowl combine the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, margarine and boiling water.  Whisk until lump free.

Cut the cake into squares.

Dip into the chocolate sauce, making sure its completely covered all around.

Toss into the coconut and cover completely.  Repeat.

Happy Lame – ington day.

Weekend Recap

I love this time of the year, its one of those special holidays were you can be as kitsch as you want to be and no one and I mean NO one can judge you.  All around you can see people getting ready for the Christmas festivities, last minute gift shopping and all the Christmas songs playing on repeat in every shop.

Over the weekend we decided to go try out concious 108 its a vegan cafe that serves amazing vegan food. I tried the blct wrap which had tofu bacon, vegan cheese and salad on it, oh what a treat it was indeed, but for real indulgence we had sweet potato fries with it, it was perfectly spiced with just the right amount of grease to make you go OMG, this is incredible!

So behold my weekend recap in photos.

an instant of life captured for eternity

Life lately has been super eventful.  We’re in the process of buying a house, so all our attention has been towards that, but with all the busyness you always have to make room for some play time.

When we haven’t been pondering about house stuff, we’ve been getting in some family holiday time.  The man friends parents came over for a visit, which is always lovely. Today we went to visit an animal shelter, they have a great charity and book store on the ground.  We bought some lovely second hand books for a steal of a price.  I also went to see all the doggies, which was sad, but I did love and play with every single doggy/kitty I could find.

This is my photo dump of life lately.

Pomegranate Smoothie

The pomegranate is one strange looking fruit, but everything strange is good for you.  The pomegranate is a powerhouse of antioxidants, containing more antioxidants than red wine, green tea, blueberries and cranberries. The pomegranate is a nutrient dense food rich in phytochemical compounds.

This smoothie is a great antioxidant rich drink, containing pomegranate, green tea, celery, banana, apple and pear.

  • 1 cup pomegranate
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 apple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 pear, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 cup cooled green tea

Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth.  Pour and enjoy.
