Night Time Skincare routine

I don’t know about you guys, but setting up a night time skincare routine was really hard for me.  I blame the pre-cuddles.  Every night before we actually go to bed, we have pre-cuddles,  filled with giggles, talking and sometimes we even watch a show, but most of the time Belphie decides the best place to be right now is right in the middle, and believe me nothing stops him from getting in between us, he will literally show his bum right in your face just so I will move.

I just get so comfy that the thought of doing anything except brushing my teeth, bums me out, but I have to say every since starting this routine, my face feels great.  Baby soft skin, even tone and really healthy looking skin.  Carl is doing this routine with me, so we tried to get a brand that would not make his eczema worse and now we are both on the beautiful soft skin train and loving it.

NIGHT TIME SKINCARE ROUTINE

  1. Cleansing wipes – Start by getting rid of the days make up and all the days debris.
  2. Oil Cleansing –  I dab a little bit of olive oil or coconut butter on a cotton wool and gently rub in circular motion all over my face.
  3. Exfoliate – You don’t have to do this every night, but twice a week will be beneficial.
  4. Face Mask –  I use a natural face mask once a week.  My favourite is the baking soda face mask.
  5. Cleansing Face wash –  I use a cream based face mask, that really helps keeping moisture in.
  6. Eye cream – dab on eye cream.
  7. Night cream – A good night cream will make you glow in the morning.

You can use any brand of skincare products you like and works for you.  Its all about routine and consistency.  Once you get started and see the results you will be loving your little night time pamper session.

My top tips for getting that Summer glow

It might not be Summer here, but I do live in Africa.  The harsh African sun, sure can be a mean ageing machine, but with these tips you will be able to get that Summer glow all year long, no matter where in the world you are.

TIPS FOR THAT SUMMER GLOW.

  1. DIET

What you put in you get out, and it all shows on your skin.  I hardly wear foundation, so I really try to keep my skin looking great.  Every morning I take a multivitamin, and start my day off with a green smoothie or a juice.  I try to eat a low carb diet during the day, consisting of fruit and vegetables,  and avoid snacking.  When I snack I reach for a seeds and nuts, rather than having crisps and chocolate.  I also drink lots of water and herbal teas during the day and try to avoid soda’s at all costs.

With Carl’s eczema eating a clean, unprocessed diet with lots of water has really helped reduce almost all signs of it.

2. EXERCISE

Doing any physical activity really makes you feel great.  Sweating out all that bad toxins and just running with those endorphins!

When it comes to exercise I believe that no one can tell you what to do, find something that you enjoy and do it!  I try and do 45 minutes of yoga 5 days a week and hike on the weekend, but sometimes life happens and you cant get to it! Don’t stress yourself out worrying about what you can’t do today, its easy to work in a little exercise wherever you are.  If you are running errands try and find a parking spot a little further away, and just walk that extra bit.  If you have kids, play with them.  Walk to the shops.  We have a push mower and boy does that thing give you a great workout, while you do some garden work.

Its easy to fit in exercise with a tiny bit of creativity, and your glowing skin will be the reward that just keeps giving.

3. SKINCARE ROUTINE

Everyone is different, so what works for someone else might not work for you.  Your location also plays a factor in what will work for you for example if you lived in a humid area, your skincare routine will be different from someone that lives in a dry climate.  Find what works for you and stick with it.

The one thing that’s important for your skin is a good sunscreen.  Vitamin D is great, but to much sun is terrible for your skin, always protect yourself with a good sunscreen before you go out.

I keep it simple and wash my face with cold water, tone it with apple cider vinegar and moisturise with a small amount of coconut oil.  It works for me, so I stick with it.

4. HAPPINESS

The best for last.  Happiness radiates from the inside out and gives you that glow, that just don’t quit.  Find something that makes you happy, do things that make you happy and always have fun.  Decide to be happy today and don’t let anything get you down.

Everything happens for a reason and stressing about something won’t change it, being clear minded will help solve any problem.

Face Mask For Eczema

Carl suffers from some really unpleasant eczema.  I mean face peeling, looking like a snake shedding his skin kind of unpleasant.  I’ve never had eczema so I just told him to lotion up his face with coconut oil, boy was that a huge mistake! It really made things way worse.  Yes, I did feel bad, but I did come up with this wonderful face mask that relieved his symptoms and made his eczema go away almost immediately.

I have to say I wish I used this face mask as well, I noticed so many great benefits from it for the skin.  His deep forehead wrinkles were so much lighter and hardly noticeable, he also had a perfectly matte finished face, that was soft to the touch and he was a perfect even tone.  I was really jealous of his face, especially when your significant other keeps saying he’s beautiful.  The only thing that made me feel better is having the image of him trying to eat his face mask the whole time…

What makes this mask so great?

Its only consists of 2 ingredients, keeping it simple yet effective.  Its also an avocado based face mask, which is known for rejuvenating the skin.  Filled with vitamin C, A and E which is essential for the skin.

The second, but most vital ingredient is the rooibos tea.  Tea in a face mask?! Yes, rooibos tea is known to aid in relieving eczema.  Cooled rooibos tea applied directly to the infected area soothes and helps fight the inflammation of eczema.

On a side note.  I might be the only South African that really hates rooibos.  I’ve been known to say things like it tastes red and like a bush, what a stupid name.  But in true form I do have a large supply of rooibos in my house.  I love using it in kombucha and for skin problems.

FACE MASK FOR ECZEMAapply once a week or as needed

Ingredients

  • 1/2 a ripe avocado
  • 2 tbsp cooled rooibos tea

Directions

Place the ingredients into a bowl and mash until its in a smoothish paste.  Apply the mask to entire face, making sure not to get it into your eyes.  A thick layer does wonders, so don’t skimp on it.  Leave the mask on for 20 – 30 minutes.  Wipe the mask of with cool facecloth.  Now look in the mirror and admire your pretty face.

Baking Soda Face Mask

Are you looking for a cheap face mask? or a mask that you can make right now?  This face mask is made out of just two ingredients, baking soda and water.  You would think something so simple must do nothing, but this mask tightens your skin and lifts out impurities.  I mean its such a great mask that Carl even tried it, after telling me he wants to try it and saying make me beautiful, at the end of the day he kept going on about how amazing his skin looked.

Please note: No men were harmed during the making of this post.

This mask can be done once a week or whenever you have a hankering for a cracking face.

BAKING SODA FACE MASK

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp water

Directions

In a small bowl mix until you have a paste.  Lather all over your face.  Let dry.  Wash it off.  Moisturise.

That’s it a simple and easy face mask that’s got some serious results.

Coco Loco

No, this isn’t a post about milky Joe (The Mighty Boosh.  This is a post about coconut oil and all its wonderful benefits for your hair.

I’ve been using coconut oil for my hair every other day to see if I would notice a difference and boy oh boy, my hair is looking wonderful!  My hair feels stronger, feels soft, yet silky, really shinier and my tips look really healthy.

My hair went from really dry ( thank you Johannesburg) to shiny and wonderful.  I’ve also been using it as a moisturiser and I really don’t know why people buy really fancy face cream!  My face feels and looks great, its like getting a youth boost!  I can just not get over how my skin is an even tone all over, no red spots and its worked wonders for my bags under my eyes.

After reading some benefits for animals I started giving Belphie a little bit of coconut oil in his dinner time meal.  Ever since he showed up at the house he has had really goopy eyes, but now its almost completely gone.
