Hike Day!

Happy Friday everyone!

Today was a public holiday over her, so to celebrate we went on a 5 hour hike, that was really filled with almost all my fears.  A ladder made out of tyres that just didn’t feel safe, and just went to far into a cave, I was overcome with fear and wanted to cry so I decided not to do.  The suspension bridge that people (Men) kept jumping on to make it extremely wobbly, like any sane person I waited till everyone crossed, before making my own SOLO attempt over. I ran.  It was an extremely beautiful hike, but really long, I wished we took one of the escape roots to make it a little bit shorter, the last hour was a little bit boring and felt like it would never end.  We had chats about the hobbit’s from lord of the rings and I recited lines from it to ease some boredom and make the walk feel shorter.  It really just did not work.

The end of the hike you have to go on a little one seater cable car that you have to pull to get yourself over the river, if you didn’t have much momentum you really have a hard time pulling yourself to the other side.

It was a lovely hike, filled with beauty and will do it again in a heartbeat.  If you are ever in Johannesburg I really recommend Hennop’s trail.

^^ Beautiful river rapidly flowing.

^^ This was when I was calmly trying to get over the bridge…It started shaking…I ran.

^^ Clear skies.

^^ This was a random cave, that was really dark, without a flash light we decided not to attempt going in.

^^ This view is mystical.

^^ The last escape route we decided not to take…. BIG MISTAKE

Enjoy the weekend everybody!

an instant of life captured for eternity.

While most people go out for a drink or shake their booties at the club on the weekend and have the best time ever, I’m at home with my pretty man friend having a harry potter marathon.  Don’t get me wrong I love whipping out my ridiculously embarrassing dance moves when I get the chance, but I do love me a good lazy weekend.  Kidding. it really wasn’t that lazy. We did watch harry potter, but we did a lot of stuff in between.

We’ve almost completed the mosaic table, we got way to little tile grout, so we still have a lot of grouting to do, but so far this is the most rewarding project to date.  Turning something like a simple tin table into something beautiful is the best feeling ever.  We also went to donate some stuff we no longer use to an animal shelter charity shop, while we were there, I got to look at all the animals, somehow I managed to make all of them bark, while saying “who is a pretty doggie?! You are a pretty doggie!”.  Its always hard to go look at these animals, I always just want to adopt them all!

The horses have gotten way to fond of our place and seem to be hanging around a lot these days.  It might be the carrots and apples I give them, or the delicious grass we have growing in the garden.  All I know is, we have large new friends around now, that are the best mowers in all the land.

^^ Look at this beautiful mushroom.

^^ Say hello to the horse!

^^ This is fire.  He was really intrigued by the camera.

^^ I wish I was this photogenic.

^^ Magic is all around us and found when you actually start looking around you, instead of relying so much on technology for entertainment.

^^ Starting the tile grouting.

DSC04357^^ I also decided to get some winter flower seeds so even during winter we will have beautiful flowers.

I hope everyone had a restful weekend and is excited for the week.

Living out in the country  might be one of the best things I’ve ever done.  Its so peaceful and relaxing here.  Its great to have enough space to garden and have so many projects lined up.  Even my kombucha is loving it here, my scoby is finally big and beautiful, making me delicious apple rooibos kombucha.

With all the activities at the cottage we still made some time to go for a hike at the cradle of humankind.  Its a lovely relaxed hike, not that great if you really want to get a workout, but because we are sillies we didn’t know where to go so we had to walk all the way back to the map, so we did the hike twice.

Photo dump time!

^^ Hiking fun.

^^ I was tickling Carl with a long grass thingy.

^^ I don’t know this little guys real name, but I’ve named him mint crisp, minty to his friends.

^^ Raised garden complete.  Filled with compost and seeds planted.

^^ Pretty man looking at the pretty view.

Hope you guys had a fantastical weekend!

Life lately has been super eventful.  We’re in the process of buying a house, so all our attention has been towards that, but with all the busyness you always have to make room for some play time.

When we haven’t been pondering about house stuff, we’ve been getting in some family holiday time.  The man friends parents came over for a visit, which is always lovely. Today we went to visit an animal shelter, they have a great charity and book store on the ground.  We bought some lovely second hand books for a steal of a price.  I also went to see all the doggies, which was sad, but I did love and play with every single doggy/kitty I could find.

This is my photo dump of life lately.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hiking in Kloofendal Nature Reserve

On the weekend we decided to go try out a new hiking trail.  Kloofendal Nature Reserve is a wonderful reserve filled with hiking trails for any level of fitness.  The best part about it, is that its completely free and a great place for an after hike picnic or BBQ.  We did the rocky ridge trail that was completely true to its name.  It was covered in beautiful rocks that just kept getting better.  It was a really hot, but beautiful day that was filled with giggles the entire day.

The Nature reserve also has a planet walk and a bird hide.  This is a must see reserve.

The best way to end a weekend is with a snow cone.

Happy Monday everyone.
