New Year 2015

This was definitely my favourite new years eve of all time, drinking mocktails, eating chips with salsa, binge watching roswell, getting silly and taking lots of photos, harassing Belphie to be in the photos and kissing to celebrate the arrival of the new year.  To celebrate being 2 months sober on the  first, I woke up without a hangover and felt absolutely great hold the absolut (vodka joke)!

This year I’m not going to have any new years resolutions, instead I’m going to try and have a great year and try and better myself everyday, becoming a stronger person in the process. For everyone with resolutions I hope you’re able to achieve them this year.  Hopefully this year will be filled with love, more adventures and way more cat cuddles.  Happy New Year everyone!

Johannesburg Art Gallery

Hello lovelies!  Today was a fun packed day.  We went to check out the Johannesburg Art Gallery and I can’t believe I haven’t moved into that place yet.  This beautiful gallery is situated in downtown Johannesburg, yes this will put a lot of people off visiting the gallery, but its worth it, this gallery needs to be in this area to show everyone/inspire that art isn’t just about money, this gallery is for the people. Poor, middle class and the rich it doesn’t matter.

There are numerous painting and sculptures on display, ranging from foreign artist to graffiti art.  They also have a multi sensory installation running by renowned artist William Kentridge.  Sitting and watching his work was truly amazing.

I was a little love struck and surprised I didn’t burst into tears when I finally saw it.

Just a few photos of this wonderful experience.  Its almost new year party time.  For all my sober friends…good luck.

Christmas 2014

This year Santa was a bit of a douche, what I woke up to Christmas morning was a horrible case of pinkeye. Oh and its not any better today, it looks like I was punched in the face, but a swollen eye is no reason to get upset.  Christmas was to wonderful for that.

Christmas eve we ate edamame and tofu chowmein. Christmas was a wonderful time of watching a lot of Christmas movies, taking photos of Belphie with his Santa hat (he loved his hat), pretending to be reindeer and eating the most delicious sweet potato dauphinoise. This is Christmas in photos.

an instant of life captured for eternity

Life lately has been super eventful.  We’re in the process of buying a house, so all our attention has been towards that, but with all the busyness you always have to make room for some play time.

When we haven’t been pondering about house stuff, we’ve been getting in some family holiday time.  The man friends parents came over for a visit, which is always lovely. Today we went to visit an animal shelter, they have a great charity and book store on the ground.  We bought some lovely second hand books for a steal of a price.  I also went to see all the doggies, which was sad, but I did love and play with every single doggy/kitty I could find.

This is my photo dump of life lately.

Why I stopped drinking alcohol

Today is my one month anniversary of when I took my last drink.  It has not been an easy choice, with all the withdrawals, feeling like I need a drink and just dealing with people that don’t understand why I’m doing this.  With all the negatives gone now I feel great, life has improved and things are just looking up.

With today’s society making it out like you need to have a drink to celebrate, you need to have a drink when you’re down and you need to have a drink to get together with friends, its easy to fall into a seemingly never ending drinking party.  At the age of 26 I’ve decided to take my life back and start enjoying my life without a buzz, without the daze of alcohol that makes everything okay for a short period of time.  Let me tell you its been great!  After suffering with insomnia for years and never being able to fall asleep without alcohol, I’ve realized I just needed to kick that habit completely! Now I can fall asleep easily and wake up feeling refreshed.  My skin is looking great and I just feel healthy and the best part for me is feeling happy without needing alcohol.

Letting go of my party girl habits, have made me actually get to know myself and start loving more.  You might think giving alcohol up makes you a boring person, but sitting drinking gets very repetitive, now that’s boring!

For the first time in a long time I feel completely happy, content, healthy and I feel like I’m living life.

I never thought sobriety would be for me, but now its the only way for me. I wake up every morning happy that I don’t have a hangover and I can kick the days ass.  I can’t wait to see what is yet to come.
